Research shows migraine and depression medications can be used together safely

For those suffering from both migraines and depression, a study by UF Health neurologist and MBI member Yulia Orlova, M.D., Ph.D., D.Med.Sc., in collaboration with the John R. Graham Headache Center, supports the safety of combining two medications (triptans and SSRIs or SNRIs) to treat both conditions. Her findings show the risk of developing serotonin syndrome is low and a 2006 FDA advisory against the combination of these medications should be reconsidered.
