New technique could bring earlier diagnoses for muscular dystrophy, ALS

A new discovery by UF Health researchers and collaborators could potentially help doctors diagnose their patients with muscular dystrophy, ALS and similar disorders sooner.

“We now have a quick, affordable way of seeing intron retention that correlates with a patient having a certain type of repeat expansion disorder,” said Maurice Swanson, Ph.D., associate director of the UF Center for NeuroGenetics and MBI member.
