Toffler Leadership Awards

Through funding provided to McKnight Brain Institute by the Karen Toffler Charitable Trust for Neuroscience Research and Education Fund, the MBI established the Toffler Leadership Awards. To be considered for this award, faculty nominators must be MBI members.  (Click link to join for free).

These awards recognize excellence in neuroscience research and/or education by students enrolled in a Ph.D., M.D. or combined doctoral program at the University of Florida. We have dedicated $2,500 per year in support of this program and we anticipate that up to three awards will be given annually.

Individuals may be nominated for the award by faculty through a letter not to exceed two pages (submitted through this webpage). Letters should contain specific examples, where appropriate.  Multiple faculty nominations for a student are allowable.

In previous years, we have subsequently asked chosen finalists to submit a packet demonstrating their leadership.  With the inordinate burden of the pandemic on our trainees, this year’s winners will be chosen entirely based on faculty letters.

For questions, please contact Dr. Jada Lewis (secretary@mbi.ufl.edu). Candidates will be evaluated by the MBI Outreach and Education Subcommittee, and the chair of that committee will oversee the process. Awards will be announced at a subsequent MBI Research Evening event and awardees will be expected to attend the presentation of awards.
