Recognizing Risks

PriceA first-of-its-kind program at UF Health assesses cognition and memory functions for people 65 and older before they undergo surgical procedures involving anesthesia. The tests indicate whether the patient could be at risk for postoperative outcomes including delirium and even death.

The Perioperative Cognitive and Anesthesia Network program, or PeCAN, was launched by MBI member Catherine Price, Ph.D., an associate professor with a joint appointment in the department of clinical and health psychology in the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions and the department of anesthesiology in the UF College of Medicine.
