MBI neuroscientists talk deep brain stimulation at the Cade

McKnight Brain Institute neuroscientists and grad students shared the inner workings of deep brain stimulation, or DBS, with the Gainesville community Sept. 22 during a special event at the Cade Museum.

With interactive stations demonstrating how DBS works, a team led by DBS pioneers Kelly Foote, M.D., and Michael Okun, M.D., co-directors of the Fixel Center for Neurological Diseases at UF Health, lent insights into today’s most technologically advanced treatments for movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Tourette syndrome and dystonia.

Okun and Foote were featured as part of the Cade’s series on innovators and inventors, with an audience ranging from young children to seniors.
