Renovations to the ground floor of the McKnight Brain Institute that began the week of Dec. 17, 2018 will continue over the next four to six months.
The areas under renovation are:
- The centrally-located ground-floor laboratory space directly behind the main lobby area.
- The corridor adjacent to the loading dock.
The ground-floor project is part of an ongoing effort to improve and modernize the MBI. In addition to providing a more flexible, modular design, the laboratory renovations will include multi-user areas such as tissue culture and equipment rooms. The corridor renovations will provide alternative locations for existing freezers and the ground-floor ice machine and additional space for future large equipment needs. Existing doors between the back of the main lobby area and the adjacent corridor, and the loading dock doors, will also be upgraded to enhance temperature/air pressure control and security.
During construction there will be portions of some corridors that will be blocked or difficult to use for general purposes. Every effort is being made to minimize disruptions by scheduling renovations resulting in loud noise or power outages during non-business hours. MBI building occupants will continue to receive updates and more information as the project progresses.
