At the UF Health Cancer Center‘s Cheers to the New Year event on Wednesday, Jan. 9, Duane Mitchell, M.D., Ph.D., was named the Center’s Top Influencer of 2018.
The award was in recognition of Mitchell, co-director of the Preston A. Wells, Jr. Center forĀ Brain Tumor Therapy at the University of Florida, significantly contributing to the national reputation of the cancer center.
Highlights from 2018 included Mitchell’s announcement of the ReMission Alliance at the Biden Cancer Summit in Washington and a pair of articles published in The Conversation that have combined for more than 100,000 reads to date:
Additionally, several high-impact papers from the UF Brain Tumor Immunotherapy Program, which Mitchell directs, were published in 2018, including:
- Researchers discover new use of stem cells that could clear path for immunotherapy in brain cancer
- Study shows how fat fuels cells in brain tumors
Mitchell also serves as co-leader of the Cancer Therapeutics and Host Response research program at the UF Health Cancer Center.
