In a recent study led by Columbia University researchers published in the New England Journal of Medicine, investigators suggest that brain activity measured by EEG may provide a key indicator to predict a patient’s likelihood of recovering from an acute brain injury.

Katharina Busl, M.D., an associate professor of neurology and division chief of neurocritical care, and Carolina Maciel, M.D., an assistant professor of neurology and director of research for the neurocritical care division, weighed in on the implications of the study in article published by The Conversation. The article analyzes the study’s findings and what it means for neurocritical care moving forward.
