UF neuroscience Ph.D. student earns int’l student achievement award

Neuroscience Ph.D. student Morgan Urdaneta is among those selected to receive a 2019 University of Florida International Center Certificates of Excellence during a ceremony on Nov. 19. The award, which honors top international students whose visas are sponsored by the UF International Center, will be presented in a ceremony at the J. Wayne Reitz Union.

“Morgan is a prolific and enthusiastic student who certainly has a bright future in the science and research of neuroprostheses,” said his mentor Kevin Otto, Ph.D., professor in the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering and director of the Neuroprostheses Research Laboratory.

Urdaneta, who hails from Venezuela, is a Ph.D. student in interdisciplinary science with a specialization in neuroscience and is currently working on micromagnetic stimulation for closed-loop brain machine interfaces, a technology that could help those suffering from neurological diseases or injuries.
