MBI receives $100,000 gift to support Alzheimer’s research

Alzheimer’s disease research at the McKnight Brain Institute received a boost with a $100,000 gift from the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation to support early-career scientists in the field.

Alzheimer’s Research Foundation founder Doug Klinowski and executive director Terri Neipert presented the donation to MBI leadership during a Nov. 5 event in Simons Island, Georgia, where the foundation is based.

“This generous gift and continued support from the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation will accelerate discoveries and support future leaders in neuroscience,” said Jennifer Bizon, Ph.D., director of the McKnight Brain Institute.

Previous support from the foundation led to the naming of two Alzheimer’s Research Foundation Gator NeuroScholars — Brittany DeFeis, Ph.D., who studies metabolic risk factors of Alzheimer’s, and Skylar Stolte, Ph.D., who studies non-invasive brain stimulation as a possible intervention for the disease.

The Alzheimer’s Research Foundation is committed to combating Alzheimer’s disease by driving innovative research and education rooted in prevention, early intervention and functional medicine.
