Through funding provided to McKnight Brain Institute by the Karen Toffler Charitable Trust for Neuroscience Research and Education Fund, the MBI established the Toffler Leadership Awards. To be considered for this award, faculty nominators and applicants must be MBI members.
These awards recognize excellence in neuroscience research and/or education by students enrolled in a Ph.D., M.D. or combined doctoral program at the University of Florida. We have dedicated $2,500 per year in support of this program and we anticipate that up to three awards will be given annually.
Nominations of individuals who have worked to increase diversity, equity and/or inclusion in neuroscience research, education, and/or health care or nominations that highlight leadership in the face of the pandemic are highly encouraged.
Individuals may be nominated for the award by faculty through a letter not to exceed one page (submit through this webpage) by March 1, 2021. By March 15, 2020, the MBI will select a group of nominees to submit application packets that summarizes their achievements. Completed application packets will then be due April 1, 2021.
Nominees should not submit application packages unless they have been invited to submit. Application packets should include an NIH style biosketch and additional materials not to exceed 4 additional pages. As part of those 4 pages, packets can include a copy of an awarded F31 (or equivalent) summary statement, a research publication, details of a conference that nominee has organized, or teaching evaluations; however, the body of work represented will vary by applicant. Nominees who have worked to increase diversity, equity and/or inclusion in neuroscience research, education, and/or health care or who have shown leadership in the face of the pandemic should highlight those efforts in their invited packages.
For questions, please contact Dr. Jada Lewis (firstname.lastname@example.org). Candidates will be evaluated by the MBI Outreach and Education Subcommittee, and the chair of that committee will oversee the process. Awards will be announced at a subsequent MBI Research Evening event and awardees will be expected to attend the presentation of awards.
