Through funding provided to McKnight Brain Institute by the Karen Toffler Charitable Trust for Neuroscience Research and Education Fund, we have established the Toffler Leadership Awards.
These awards are to recognize excellence in neuroscience research and/or education by students enrolled in a Ph.D., M.D. or combined doctoral program at the University of Florida. We have dedicated $2,500 per year in support of this program and we anticipate that at least three awards will be given annually. Additionally, MBI has matched funds for the Toffler Leadership awards and there will also be a separate category of awards for post-doctoral fellows, clinical fellows and assistant professors who have shown outstanding leadership in neuroscience research and/or education.
Students may be nominated for the award by faculty through a letter not to exceed one page, which the faculty should submit directly to firstname.lastname@example.org. Based on the nomination letters, we will select a small number of trainees and ask them to submit an application package. Students should not submit application packages unless they have been invited to submit. Examples of the application packet include a research paper, details of a conference that they have organized, or teaching evaluations; however, the body of work will depend on the achievement being recognized.
The next deadline for nominations is Feb. 1, 2020.
For questions, please contact Dr. Lewis (email@example.com). Candidates will be evaluated by the MBI Outreach and Education Subcommittee, and the chair of that committee will oversee the process. Awards will be announced at a subsequent MBI Research Evening event and awardees will be expected to attend the presentation of awards.
